The Life-Ennobling movement continues to evolve. It began in 2024 with the introductory publication of Life-Ennobling Economics. That initial work was inspired by a diverse ecosystem of thinkers and this continues to be the case as different perspectives flow into new tributaries.
In August 2026, we closed the Dark Matter Labs chapter with the publication of the LEE/LED/LEL Compilation, which is a standalone resource bringing together over two years of work. What happens next will be driven by curiosity and a collective yearning for a world that makes sense.
March 2024:
The introduction of the Life-Ennobling Economics WORLDVIEW(s)
Life-Ennobling Economics is a bold vision and a call to action. It is an ennobling invitation to break free from ideological constraints, to curiously explore diverse perspectives, and to challenge the foundational building blocks of our extractive socio-economic systems. Implicit in the underlying philosophy is an understanding that the structure and values of the economy must be in service to all forms of life, providing an inclusive scaffold of care and respect.
October 2024:
The concept of conversational design was made tangible and used to support life-ennobling processes
To evolve from an economy of extraction to an economy of care we need to evolve from Communication Design to Conversation Design. While Communication Design builds one-directional relationships between corporations and consumers, Conversational Design builds frameworks and pathways for communities. An example of this shift was a 2-day workshop with the Radicle Reading Room, where conversational design was used to think about the procedural and organisational relationships that they wanted to foster.
February 2025:
The PROCESS of Life-Ennobling Design started to take shape
Life-Ennobling Design started as a conversation between an economist curious about design, and a designer curious about the economy. At the centre of our conversations was a deep frustration about the worldview driving our professions, but also a love for their potential, if used for generative purposes. We became curious about the overlaps but also about the lack of meaningful interactions. Life-Ennobling Design sits at the intersection of Life-Ennobling Economics and Conversational Design. It is a relational design process, inviting designers and non-designers to collaborate to reconfigure societal systems.
August 2025:
The introduction of the Anti-Brief as a tool for professional activism
The Anti-Brief framework was developed to provide a shared language for the dissonance that many people feel in their lives. It helps to expose and name common patterns that we all experience in both our personal and professional lives. This was an important step in the Life-Ennobling journey as it opened the potential for interdisciplinary agency and action.
October 2025:
The CONTEXT of Life-Ennobling Law illustrated the potential for the Anti-Brief to translate between the worldview(s) OF LEE and the relational process of LED
We always hoped that LED could translate into professional contexts, bringing the power of design to many legacy system blockers in our economy. This ambition was realised with the exploration of Life-Ennobling Law. It began with an inspiring conversation with the brilliant Dr Apolline Roger of ClientEarth and continues with a growing community of lawyers in the field.
January 2026:
The launch of the Societal Design Master programme in collaboration with Elisava, Barcelona
The ambition of Life-Ennobling Design was to seed a diverse and vibrant community that could apply and grow the thinking into different contexts. To further that aim, the Societal Design Master was developed and launched with Elisava University in Barcelona.

The launch of the Anti-Brief Game and Deep Code Cards
Throughout this journey, together with the wider work of Dark Matter Labs, the concept of deep codes has resonated across sectors and worldviews. To build on this energy, we launched a game that helps to bring the codes to life in a playful, interactive format.

The publication of the LEE/LED/LEL compilation
To close the chapter of actively building the Life-Ennobling movement, we want to make the work as accessible as possible, knowing that others will extend it into what needs to happen next. There is a lot of material and our journey was expansive by design. In contrast, this compilation is aimed at readers who would like to focus on specific aspects or dip in and out when time allows.
September 2026:
The Anti-Brief continues as a boundary object for curious minds and the rewilding of our relational souls
Organisational structures change and people move into new roles and interests, but the seeds of a life-ennobling future continue to grow. The Anti-Brief has evolved to hold space for that to happen and will continue to host a community of transdisciplinary learning.
